I’ve had the word “communion” on my mind for the last few months.

This idea that God’s deepest desire is to be with his creation. He wants to be with me. It has simplified my friendship with Him in the sweetest way. I recently read Revelation 3 and I thought it was the perfect picture of this idea.

It is God’s message to the church at Laodicea. He calls them “stale,” “stagnant,” “pitiful,” “blind,” and “homeless” in some versions of the Bible. As well as “wretched” and “miserable” and “poor” and “blind” and “naked” in other versions. Can anyone else relate?
:woman-raising-hand:

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”
Revelation 3:20 NLT

I love this. He recognizes their reality – their mess. He doesn’t give them a list of things to change about their behavior or even their attitude – he just wants to be with them. He wants to share a meal with them. He wants to be their FRIEND. What can heal my misery, my pity, my blindness, my homelessness, my indifference, my confusion, my (fill in the blank)? Sharing a meal together – as friends – with a God who loves being with me.

Challenge for you: This week, just hang out with God! Maybe that’s a short walk around your neighborhood, maybe it is a meal, maybe a car ride, maybe in the waiting room for that appointment you are dreading. Wherever you find that you have some time to scroll on your phone this week – just be with God. Tell him about your day. It makes him smile just to be with you.
