The above definition is how Merriam Webster defines revival.
A noun. A state of being. In a very literal sense this is true.
I want to suggest that revival is so much more! Revival is active and living. Revival is God-breathed, powerful life change! Revival is All In! Revival is Always, Only Jesus! Revival is actively loving God with all your heart! Revival from God is what we need! It must be what we seek.
As a church we are approaching a time of actively seeking God to bring revival to our hearts, homes, church, community, and nation.
But it must begin in each of us.
I’m asking you right now to commit to praying for revival, accompanied by a time of personal examination and church-wide cooperation.
Many of us (myself included) have claimed the promise of Jeremiah 29 to bring hope and encouragement. But we must not forget the accompanying call to seek the Lord and His will in our lives.
Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:13 (ESV)
“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
I’m asking and encouraging you to join me as we pray for revival!
As a church, we are planning a time of actively preparing our hearts for a work of God. In mid-September we will meet and ask God to move in five distinct ways according to His will. For five weeks we will call upon the Lord to be glorified in and through His church. We will host speakers from across the nation, we will meet together for prayer, we will be equipped to love, know, serve, and share Jesus.
We call it the R(5) Revival.
Repent – We will explore, understand, and embrace the biblical call to live in repentance. We will live in the freedom that salvation has brought us. We will ask God to change our minds, our hearts, and our lives.
Reconcile – We will seek the Bible’s mandate to find reconciliation in all relationships. As Paul declared, “as much as is in you, live peaceably with all men,” and as Jesus said, “Love thy neighbor as thyself.”
Renew – We will give Jesus Christ full access and complete control of our lives. We will experience rededication and truly know what it means to walk daily with the Lord. We will experience the fruit of the Spirit and the abundant life promised by Christ.
Reach – We will recommit to the mission of the Church. We have been trusted with the greatest message ever given to man, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Every child of God should be ready and equipped to go and tell what the Lord has done for them.
Rejoice – We will celebrate Jesus Christ and give him the credit for every good thing. We will sing with the saints of the goodness of God.
We believe that the best is yet to come. We believe that God is alive. We believe that the Gospel is powerful. Please join me in praying for a movement of God. We need a move!
